Torrents: Router adjustments

I started using Torrents last year. At the time, I used a normal USB ADSL modem, and had no problems using torrents.
In December I upgraded my internet connection, and as a result of this, I got a router that supports the faster connection.
However, I'm unable to use torrents now, as the error displayed, says something to the extent of me having to adjust ports on my router to allow my client "BitTornado", to work propperly.
Can anyone please give me directions on how to actually configure the correct ports for this to work propperly?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The instructions you're going to need are going to be determined by the make and model of the router you're using. Every router is different. If you can give me the exact make and model, I might be able to download a manual and see what options are. I'm assuming, of course, that this router is configurable via a web browser. Once we have that information, we can proceed from there.
